1. HANSE-Passivehouse in England - Clients in the UK are inspired by the passive houses built by the Hanse Haus Company which is situated in the Rhön (low mountain range in the middle of Germany).

West Quantoxhead, 28th of July 2010.
Hanse Haus, the manufacturer of prefabricated houses, which is specialised in low-energy houses, has established its first passive house in the UK.
“Also abroad building owners are focusing increasingly on houses which are characterized by an energy demand at a very low level. Furthermore for our foreign customers the high in-house production depth with proper employees and turn-key delivery are of importance and are counted among buying motives.
The UK was heavy struck by the financial crisis, so the building owners got an increased want to realize the likely biggest investment in their live with an respectable business partner . We are pleased to spurk such a big interest in low-energie houses coming from the Rhön on the part of the foreign constructers and by our concept of ‘everything under one roof’.” So the comment of Marco Hammer, chairman of the management at Hanse Haus.
Passive houses are characterized by an extremely low annual energy demand for the firing, so the consumption comes up to 1,5 liter oel or domestic gas per sqm living space. Besides the consume can also be covered by alternative energies. A newly built house according to current legal instructions requires 6 up to 10 liter oel per sqm living space. Who wants to ensure that his proper house becomes a passive house has to licence it by the institution for passive houses which is situated in Darmstadt.
Times up for an incoherency of the concept of a low- energie house and the demand for an individual architecture. A passive house in particular is distinguished by a comfortable indoor temperature and an optimum comfort.
Bruno Kleinhenz is sales manager and belongs to the company more than 30 years. He declares : “We are intending to sell another 25 houses in theUK in the year 2010, certainly also some passive houses”.
The Hanse Haus GmbH, which is situated in Oberleichtersbach, emploies about 300 assistants, 30 trainees of most various professions like carpenter, electrician, plumber, painter up to industrial manager and computer experts. There should be engaged another 30 fellow employees till December 2010, especially in the production.

Now, to demonstrate it’s energy efficiency, they are holding a ‘cycle challenge’ event (sponsored and promoted by well-known German beer, Paulander) at the Hanse Haus headquarters in Germany.
The aim of the ‘cycle challenge’ is to demonstrate the energy efficiency of the Hanse Haus Passive house. 10 teams of 5 people, including a team from Hanse Haus UK, will compete against one another in a 24-hour cycling contest using indoor static bikes. Each of the 10 bikes will be linked to a monitor showing how much energy each team are producing in relation to the energy consumption of the Passive house. The winning team will be the ones that cycle the furthest over the 24-hour period.
